Packing for Italy: 3 Weeks & Carry-on Only
If you think carry-on only for a three-week trip is impossible, just pack for one week and make sure all the clothes you bring are plug-and-play! You’ll likely have some access to a washer/dryer, and you can easily repeat. Or, follow the tips in this video and just bring it all!
Traveling with just a carry-on comes with several advantages. With airlines looking for any excuse to upcharge, not checking a bag will save you quite a bit in fees. You won’t have the hassle of waiting for your luggage after you land, and you’ll be more flexible if your flight changes or you miss a connection. Plus, you’ll avoid the stress of a lost suitcase!
But wait … there’s more. You’ll be navigating tiny streets, cars or taxis, trains, staircases, and—if you’re lucky—teeny-tiny elevators, all with the ease of a pro. That said, it takes some preparation to travel with just a carry-on bag. These items are the ones we think offer the most “value” when packing. They’re useful, but also slim and easy to fit in small spaces.
Great advice!
Would you be able to advise me what types of bras you wear for halter or thin strap dresses ?
Please and 🙏 thank you.
Great question. At my age, a bra makes or breaks an outfit. 🙂
We just returned from 12 days in Paris, Positano, Capri, and Sorrento. We flew economy on Air France from IAD to CDG to NAP which meant that our carry on and personal item together could not weigh more than 26.4 pounds — and, yes, our bags were weighed and measured at the airport by Air France. If carry on bag and personal item are over 26.4 pounds, Air France will make you check the carry on bag. So to prepare ahead of time, I used packing cubes and a luggage scale and managed to keep the total weight below 26.4 pounds. Air France did randomly require some passengers to check their bags from CDG to NAP even though there was plenty of overhead space and their bags were the correct weight and size. With not a lot of time to race from one terminal to another at CDG to make our connection to NAP on the way there and IAD on the way home, it was crucial that I keep my carry on bag and personal item with me.
I’m impressed! We’ve lived overseas 19 years and you nailed travel packing right away and taught me a few things!
Can you tell us what suitcase you are using.
I took a screenshot of the locking mechanism in the video, then cropped the screenshot to show just the suitcase and lock. Then I did a reverse image search and found the brand. It is a brand called Monos. Easy as pie hahaha
Did you pack toiletries/ makeup ? If so what bag did you put them in. Is the carryon rule limited to 3oz for liquids / toiletries?
yes that’s what I was wondering too
Also wondering if you have resources to help for a similar trip to Ireland in May (it will be much cooler but I want to pack lightly)
